Adam is a PhD student at the University of Manchester. He is investigating the surface roughness changes associated with peatland restoration and how this influences runoff and NFM benefits in headwater catchments. He plans to use ground based and airborne remote sensing to estimate spatial variation in surface roughness and the relative impact on channel flow across the channel-slope profile. He will consider roughness elements affecting flow across a range of spatial scales, from vegetation at plot scale, to gully blocks at catchment scale.
